French speaking colloquiums dedicated to the teaching of computer science  

What is the AFDI?
 

The French speaking association for the teaching of computer science (Association Francophone pour la Didactique de l'Informatique: AFDI) was born as a direct follow up of the first French speaking colloquium on the teaching of computer science. The colloquium, an initiative of the EPI association (Enseignement Public et Informatique: Informatics in Public Sector Education), had taken place at the Paris Descartes University, on September 1-2-3, 1988.

The association got its official status when it declared its existence to the Préfecture de Paris in July 1995. The association is dependent on the French law "Loi de 1901". Its address used to be 13 rue du Jura, 75013 Paris, already the legal address of EPI, one of its founder members.

Article 3 of its statutes: "The association aims to work in favour of research and development activities in the domain of the teaching of computer science in French speaking countries."

The AFDI was very dynamic in the 90's, initiating the following colloquiums: Namur (Belgium) 1990, Sion (Switzerland) 1992, Québec (Canada) 1994, Monastir (Tunisia) 1996.

Its last president was Mr Tahar HAFAIEDH (Tunisia). Officially the association has not been dissolved. Due to the progressive fading away -not only in France- of the school courses dedicated to computing, the association has become dormant.
