Phylogène : un environnement multimédia pour l'étude des relations de parenté entre les organismes vivants

Abstract : We present in this paper PHYLOGENE, a multimedia environment enabling the study of relationships between living organisms. This environment is composed on one hand of biologic, anatomic, morphologic and molecular data relative to several sets of species and proposes on the other hand different cognitive activities to exploit this data: observation, comparison, samples selection, classification and schematisation. Navigation tools are provided to explore these documents and iconographic data, as well as various methods of calculation needed to establish relationships between organisms. PHYLOGENE has been designed to be usable at different school levels. It leaves a great part of initiative to the students and allows them to develop approaches involving reasoning and argumentation. The general approach it proposes can be applied to many themes in biology. It is also adaptable to other domains where collections of objects can be described, compared, sorted and classified according to criteria.
