Définir le rôle de la coordination pédagogique dans la formation à distance

Abstract : Distance learning systems rarely take into consideration pedagogical coordination, a truly important human support function, even though it is stated in official regulations. At the UTC the master in technical writing curriculum required a pedagogical coordination function to both ensure everyday activities and compliance with pedagogical objectives. This experience will be discussed. The coordinator, as a resource person, helps students and teachers as well. By following everyday problems he or she becomes a mentor for the whole group, pushing and regulating at the same time. This person maintains group life and cohesiveness by supervising the entire pedagogical process. Pedagogical coordination also helps in dealing with the drop-out problem which is rather frequent in distance learning. Students are often disoriented and the coordinator's job is to treat them, not only as learners, but as human beings as well.
