A Simulated Student Model for Improving Collaborative Learning

Abstract : Learning in collaboration has numerous advantages. However, sometimes situations arise that may damage collaboration. This is the case for instance when there are passive students in a group. New technology may be used to detect and avoid some of the situations that hamper efficient learning in a group. This paper describes the model of a simulated student in charge of controlling and fostering students' learning in collaborative environments. An evaluation of the model was carried out. The results of the experiment indicated that in most cases the Simulated Student detected and corrected students' problems related to their learning.
