Évaluation des EIAH : une nécessaire diversité des méthodes

Abstract : It is now well established that the evaluation of Interactive Learning Environments is crucial. But how to evaluate an ILE? This paper presents various methods for ILE evaluation distinguishing between two kinds of evaluation: evaluation of usability versus evaluation of utility. Evaluation of the usability of an ILE can be realised by adapting classical methods developed by HCI researchers. Conversely, evaluation of the utility of an ILE that consists in evaluating the impact of the ILE on learning requires the use of specific methods. We present here these methods and
then, we discuss about the choice of the method depending on the ILE we want to evaluate. Finally, we present two examples to illustrate the relevance of combining several methods in order to evaluate both the impact of the ILE on learning and the complexity of the learning situation.
