Les apprentissages nomades en Europe : éléments pour une cartographie de la recherche

Abstract : This chapter aims at exploring the relationship between technology and education in terms of mobility. The common use of devices such as mobile phones, mp3 players, USB keys, and the rapid development of the mobile Internet, are increasingly questioning the educational community and help to mobilize, although marginally, the scientific community. The purpose of this chapter is not to report on the first research findings on mobile learning, but to show how academia takes into account this new research subject focusing on emerging and volatile technologies and on practices that are being invented daily. In the first part, we concentrate on the challenges of mobile learning and the different meanings that have emerged in the last decade. These meanings are illustrated with a few educational projects and learning situations, chosen both for the diversity of features used (store, read or listen to, distribute, communicate, etc..) and the variety of contexts (space, time, subjects). In a second step, we identify the main European and international research networks dealing with mobile learning and show how they are structured. This mapping relies on the major international conferences and on the resources created by research and educational networks. This exploration concludes with some theoretical considerations on the issues that feed the scientific literature and the prospects for research.
