Analyse statistique de comportements d'élèves en algèbre

Abstract : We present an analysis of behaviors of students solving algebra exercises with the Aplusix software. We built a set of statistics from the protocols (records of the interactions between the student and the software) in order to evaluate the correctness of the calculation steps and of the corresponding solutions. We have particularly studied the activities of college students (sixteen and seventeen years old). This study emphasizes the didactic variables which are relevant for the types of selected exercises (which are quite classical). We show that the technical algebraic skills of the students are rather low with respect to the expected level. We have also analyzed the statistical data with the help of automatic clustering methods, with the aim of detecting categories among the students.
